Optimal Care Pediatrics is hosting a Nicklaus Children’s Hospital EKG screenings clinic with Dr. David Drossner, pediatric cardiologist, on July 24th from 2-5 p.m. The screenings are free and are being offered exclusively to Optimal Care patients that are middle and high school athletes. Sudden cardiac death occurs in student-athletes usually without advance signs or symptoms. EKG screenings can help protect your young athlete by detecting cardiac irregularities. Preparing meals for a toddler can be frustrating. Many kids at this age tend to prefer a couple of foods while refusing many of the more nutritious options. But there are strategies and techniques you can use to ensure your toddler eats a healthy diet while maintaining a positive attitude towards food.

For the second in our series of talks about childhood health, we will be hosting Kerri Charles, a Registered Dietitian to get tips on how to avoid meal time battles. Kerri will be discussing your toddler’s nutritional needs and will offer tips on meal preparation, shopping and recipe ideas to keep your little one healthy.

Come and learn about how many times you should try to introduce new foods to your toddler and healthy beverage options. Also get ideas for creative ways to introduce new foods and snacks.

National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) is April 21-28. During NIIW, communities across the United States will celebrate the critical role vaccination plays in protecting the health of our children, families and communities. Most parents choose the safe, proven protection of vaccines. Giving babies the recommended immunizations by age two is the best way to protect them from 14 serious childhood diseases, like whooping cough and measles.

During NIIW, Optimal Care Pediatrics encourages you to make sure your child is up to date on vaccines by taking the CDC’s childhood vaccine quiz , reviewing the 2018 easy-to-read immunization schedule and talking to your child’s doctor. If you’re pregnant, now is a great time to schedule a visit to discuss any questions you have about vaccines. NIIW is also the perfect time to learn more about vaccines and the diseases they prevent by visiting credible websites, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine website for parents .
