Vaccine Policy: Promoting Community Health and Patient Safety

This practice is committed to protecting the health and well-being of all our patients, especially the most vulnerable. Immunizations are a critical component of preventive healthcare, offering robust protection against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases. Our policy aligns with the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics and other leading public health organizations.

Immunization Requirements

All patients are strongly encouraged to adhere to the AAP's recommended immunization schedule. This schedule is designed to provide optimal protection at appropriate ages.

Vaccine Refusal and Catch-Up Period

We understand that parents and guardians may have questions or concerns about vaccinations. We are dedicated to providing accurate, evidence-based information to help you make informed decisions about your family's health.

However, should you choose to decline or significantly delay recommended vaccinations for your child, we require that you engage in an educational discussion with one of our healthcare providers. During this discussion, we will review the risks associated with vaccine-preventable diseases and address any concerns you may have.

Following this discussion, you will have a period of thirty (30) days to initiate the recommended catch-up vaccination schedule. Our team can help you develop a personalized catch-up plan.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

If, after the 30-day catch-up period, there has been no documented progress in initiating or continuing the recommended vaccination schedule, our practice reserves the right to dismiss your child from our patient panel. This decision is made with the understanding that maintaining a community of vaccinated individuals is essential for the safety of all our patients, particularly infants, immunocompromised individuals, and those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons. Note: Refusal of RSV, flu, HPV will not be considered grounds for dismissal.

Important Considerations

  • Patient Abandonment: We will always adhere to state laws regarding patient abandonment. If dismissal becomes necessary, we will provide written notification and provide at least 30 days of care, particularly for emergency situations. We expect patients to conduct their own research on providers that can meet their particular needs.
  • Emergency Care: Even if a patient is in the process of dismissal, we will provide necessary emergency medical care during the transition period.
  • Documentation: All discussions regarding vaccine refusal, educational efforts, and attempts at catch-up will be thoroughly documented in the patient's medical record.
  • Exceptions: Exceptions to this policy may be made on a case-by-case basis for documented medical contraindications to vaccination, as determined by a healthcare provider at this practice. Religious or philosophical exemptions are not recognized by the practice.

Our Commitment

We believe in open communication and value our relationship with our patients. Our goal is to work collaboratively with you to ensure the best possible health outcomes for your family and our community.
